WITHAM’S MP inspired primary school pupils to learn about democracy by taking them on a trip to the Houses of Parliament.

MP Priti Patel took pupils from eight schools, including Powers Hall Academy in Spa Road, Witham, on a day out to Westminster to learn about the role Parliament plays in our daily lives.

Children also got the chance to do some workshops in the new Parliament Education Centre and ask Ms Patel questions.

She said: “It is absolutely fantastic to have the opportunity to meet so many local children at the brand new Parliament Education Centre in Westminster following their tour of the building which has shaped our lives for centuries, especially in the year when we are celebrating 800 years since the signing of Magna Carta.

“I would like every child from the Witham constituency to be given the opportunity to visit the Palace of Westminster and learn more about our democracy and heritage.”

The trip was part of the Parliament Education Service which aims to inform, engage and empower young people to understand and get involved in, Parliament, politics and democracy.x
