A zumba instructor has raised more than £1,000 for a cause close to her heart.

Beverley Parris, 29, wanted to raise money to support those suffering from Crohn's disease, a long-term condition that causes inflammation of the lining of the digestive system.

Her sister Deborah Hockley and sister-in-law Kristy Parris, both suffer with the incurable condition.

Mrs Parris, who hit headlines in July after a video of her and husband James’ wedding dance went viral, said: “I did a zumbathon two years ago in aid of Diabetes UK as my husband as the condition.

“We raised about £1,200 then and have so far raised £1,170 this time, with more money coming in.”

A zumbathon is where people dance zumba - a dance fitness program - for a certain amount of time.

About 80 people took part in the event on Sunday at Alec Hunter Academy, Braintree.

Mrs Parris, of Little Sampford, said: “It’s lovely to do something like this and get everyone together.

“There were people from my classes and also some who I have never met before who had heard about it and wanted to help raise money.

“They danced for two hours, and most people fought through and didn’t stop.

“I would like to thank Laura-Anne Smith who is also a zumba dancer for her help.”
