AN acid attack victim has described the moment he saw his own face looking like “melted wax” after a doorstep assault.

Aarron Isaac, 19, of, Elverson Road, Lewisham, and a 16-year-old boy from Mitcham in South London, are on trial for the attack in Witham in August last year.

Both teens deny a single charge of applying a corrosive fluid to victim Wayne Ingold with intent to cause disfigurement or grievous bodily harm on August 8 last year.

Giving evidence at Chelmsford Crown Court, Mr Ingold, 57, described the incident, which lasted for about a minute.

He said: “I came down from my flat to retrieve my post. There is a window in the door. As I got closer I could see a face.

“He could see me and he started banging and kicking the door.

“I didn’t think anything of it. The person who was standing there asked for number 55 and I just said-'That’s the top floor flat'.

“As soon as I finished saying that another person, who was hiding around the corner jumped out.

“He had a liquid bottle in his hand. It looked like a sports bottle and he started to flick it in my face.

“Naively, I thought- ‘Why is he throwing orange juice at me?’

“As soon as it hit my face I thought- ‘This isn’t orange juice- it’s acid’.

“I felt a burning sensation on my face and my body. The first thing I thought is I have got to protect my face.

“I immediately turned to go back into my flat. I grabbed the phone and dialled 999. I looked in the mirror and my face had turned yellow.

“It looked like melted wax.”

The dad-of-two was left with burns to his hands, face and arms.

While both defendants are black, or mixed race, Mr Ingold admitted he initially told police the youth who threw the acid was “white” or “olive-skinned” but said he was “in shock and pain” at the time.
