A WIDOWER hopes to help drivers beat the Monday blues while using humour to cope with his wife’s death.

Alan Watkins, of Rickstones Road, Witham, placed funny signs by the side of his road to cheer people up at the start of the week.

One read: “Invisible man for sale – must be seen”, while another quipped: “Politician – £50,000, or free to two good homes.”

The 65-year-old hit upon his crackpot scheme when at a low ebb following his wife Sherry’s sudden death three years ago.

He said: “When Sherry was around we had a great sense of humour, it was quite off the wall.

“I missed it and I miss her terribly.

“I woke up one morning and I thought if she was still about I would have to keep this sense of humour going.”

The former drummer said he had also written comedy scripts and planned to continue making signs.

He said: “If it makes me laugh and somebody else laughs at it, then that’s a bonus.”
