Charities in Braintree district have received a share of a £90,441 pot to improve health and wellbeing of people in Essex.

Provide Foundation handed out the grants to 21 voluntary and community organisations including a top donation of £20,000 which went towards Home-Start family charity in Maldon, Witham, Braintree and Halstead.

The funds were presented at a special awards ceremony held at Pontlands Park Hotel in Chelmsford on 17 September.

Derrick Louis, chairman, said:  "We are delighted that by giving these annual awards, this year totalling £90,000, we can support community schemes and projects which are making great strides to improve the health and wellbeing of people in Essex.

"Giving such support to local charities and voluntary organisations is a very important part of our work, helping to underpin the social and care services in communities."

The voluntary organisations in the Braintree disctrict who received awards included:
