A couple who have never thought of moving out of Braintree after spending all their married life in the same house are celebrating 60 years together.
When Daphne, 83, and Dennis, 84, Widdick met, George VI was on the throne, Clement Atlee was Prime Minister and women had only just been allowed to be full members of the University of Cambridge.
Daphne was 15 and living in Cressing and Dennis, then 17, lived in Stisted.
“We used to go about in a big gang in Stisted,” Dennis remembered.
“I don’t remember exactly what it was that made us start courting - it just happened.”
