A motorcyclist who died after hitting a pedestrian and a car whilst speeding on the A131 was under the influence of alcohol and cannabis, an inquest heard.

Bryan Myers, 44, of Campbell Road in Witham, died on December 18 last year after hitting Hedingham School pupil Helen Harvey, then 16, and a Toyota Corolla.

The dad-of-five was travelling along the A131 in High Garrett towards Halstead at a speed of at least 67mph in a 40mph zone when he overtook another vehicle.

Mr Myers then hit pedestrian Helen, seriously injuring her, and went into the opposite lane, where he was struck by the car.

Helen was then taken to Royal London Hospital in critical condition.
