With its perfectly mown lawns and immaculate flower displays stretching out over two-and-a-half hectares, all seems calm and serene at Braintree and Bocking Public Gardens.
But behind the scenes, the people who devote their time to keeping one of Braintree’s prime beauty spots spick and span are facing a funding struggle.
The gardens boast stunning green spaces, more than 250 trees, a children’s playground, two tennis courts and a pond surrounded by its own wild gardens.
But all that could be lost as trustees are crying out for help from young members of the community to help their ageing fundraisers.
Trustee George Canvin, a board member for eight years, has previously asked other members for donations in a desperate attempt to keep the gardens open.
