HIGHWAYS bosses have told a developer to go ahead with plans to build a DIY superstore–despite not having a company to occupy it.
Braintree Properties LLP made a planning application foraB&Q store on land south of Millennium Way, near Braintree Freeport, in December 2013.
However, the chain pulled out of the scheme more than eight months ago, saying it would remain in its current location in the Chapel Hill Retail Park, Charter Way.
In a letter to the developers, B&Q said if it was to move it would probably favour a rival bid by Freeport owners Hermes for a new store north of Charter Way.
Essex County Council has now completed a study into the traffic implications of the plans.
In a letter, Highways director for operations Andrew Cook said: “This work has concluded that the proposal is acceptable to the Highway Authority in terms of its impact upon the local highway network.”
