Nearly 1,000 Braintree homes experienced missed rubbish collections after refuse lorries broke down.
The areas affected on Friday were the Beckers Green estate, Trinovantian Way and south of Coggeshall Road.
A Braintree Council spokesman said: “Due to vehicle breakdowns, our crews were unfortunately unable to complete a number of collections in Braintree.
“The areas affected represented 2.6 per cent of the 35,695 collections carried out that day.
“Our crews returned the following day, Saturday, to collect any outstanding items."
