BUSINESS leaders hope a £700,000 scheme to transform the centre of Witham will breathe fresh life into the town.
Plans to create a new Parisien-style market square and a link between Newland Street’s two shopping centres could also pave the way for a new 50-stall artisan market on the High Street.
The ambitious project has been given the green light by Braintree Council after a four-month consultation which saw more than 80% of respondents welcome the proposals.
The main changes will include:
- Creating a Market Square at the junction of Newland Street and Guithavon Street
- Moving the market from Lockram Lane to the new Market Square
- Creating a pedestrian link between the two shopping centres
- Improving the signage in the town centre
