Resurfacing work will close the A12 overnight between junctions 22 (Witham North) and 23 (Kelvedon South) northbound from Monday.
Highways England project manager, Jennie Fraser, said: "This resurfacing work will improve the condition of the road surface for drivers using this vital route through the region and we thank drivers for their patience."
The closure will be in place from 9pm to 6am for five nights, with a diversion route in place along the B1389.
Local traffic using Rivenhall End will be diverted along Oak Road.
The work is dependent on suitable weather conditions.
