845 new homes will be needed each year in Braintree district, according to the findings of a new independent study.

A study by consultants Peter Brett Associates, commissioned by Braintree District Council and neighbouring districts, found 845 homes are needed every year until 2033.

The council must now identify where the houses should be built.

Lady Newton, councillor responsible for housing, said: “When we looked at this last year the estimate was between 750 and 950 new homes per year.

“We now have an independently assessed figure with which to move forward – one that is in line with our own previous projections, and notably lower than the speculative figures put forward by third parties.

“It is vital that the right development takes place to ensure sustainable and successful growth of the Braintree District.”
