Firefighters tackled a pile of wood and a shed that had caught fire behind a converted pub.
Two fire engines from Braintree were sent to the former Angel Inn pub in Notley Road at 7.30pm yesterday.
Crews used two hose reel jets to extinguish the fire by 8pm.
