A proposed 370-home estate would cause Witham’s roads to grind to a halt unless a second bypass is built, it is claimed.
Developer Bellway Homes, in partnership with Swan Hill Homes, wants to build 222 houses, a shop, a pharmacy and a play area on land off Forest Road, then the remaining 148 houses later on.
Residents fear Witham’s congested roads will turn to gridlock if the plans are given the go-ahead.
Jack Prime, a Rivenhall parish councillor, said: “We don’t believe the situation will be anything other than terrible.”
