Motorists have been reported for speeding offences on a stretch of road at the centre of a safety campaign by parents, teachers and Witham’s MP.

Jane Bass, principal at Powers Hall Academy, in Spa Road, Witham, has launched a petition for Essex County Council to implement safety changes in Powers Hall End after a nine-year-old boy was hit trying to cross the road in May.

Police speed checks on the road, which were carried out last Thursday, have led to four motorists receiving verbal warnings and two others reported for speeding.

Some 100 vehicles were checked between 8am and 9am.
