Braintree Cricket Club captain Will Jackson feels their players can learn the lessons of missing out on promotion in the last few years to close the deal this time.

The halfway stage of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship sees Braintree well-poised in third in the division two table following their 44-run win at Kelvedon and Feering last weekend.

They start the second half of the campaign with a trip to Dunmow today.

Jackson, who has taken over the captaincy from Nick Butler for the remainder of the season, feels they can go all the way to the top flight this year and avoid the disappointment of just missing out as they have in recent seasons.

He said: “We’ve been in this position at the halfway stage for the last three years and we need to learn from those endeavours when it comes to closing the deal.

“We are a couple of years older now and we need to be more clinical in the way we apply ourselves.

“We know how close we have come before and not made it, so we don’t want to feel that again."
