A rock and punk festival in memory of two young musicians killed in a car crash was capped off with a marriage proposal.

Friends Coz Powell, 21, and James Simmons, 18, who were both involved in local bands, both died after they were involved in a crash in Braintree Road, Gosfield, in December.

Coz’s parents Gennie and Antony Powell, of Greenfields, Gosfield hosted CodJam - a name in recognition of both Coz and James - in Russells Road, Halstead, at the weekend.

Fifteen bands performed from 1pm on Saturday and the event also featured a comedy with kazoo act, chainsaw carving, hula hooping, dancing and two hog roasts.

The highlight of the event was Coz's brother Jareth, 26, proposing to his girlfriend Shelley Hayden, 27.
