Primary school children have been given a gold award by going green.

Pupils at Great Leighs Primary School near Chelmsford were awarded by the Woodland Trust for tree planting, visiting a woodland, reducing carbon emissions and recycling.

The Green Tree Schools initiative offers the opportunity to bring the great outdoors, wildlife and green issues into the classroom and distributes awards to schools for participating in ecofriendly activities.

Great Leighs Primary School has planted new hedgerow trees in their school grounds and children have regularly visited local woods for activities such as identifying trees and finding minibeasts.
