A successful day which celebrated the life of Witham’s most famous literary figure could become an annual event.
Acclaimed theologian, novelist and Dante scholar Dorothy L Sayers lived in Witham from 1929 to 1957 and is represented by a statue near the town’s library and near the Newland Street home she lived in.
One of the most successful crime novlelists alongside Agatha Christie, her Lord Peter Wimsey novels are still popular to this day.
The Dorothy L Sayers society hosted the Hurrah For Dorothy day on Saturday, which included an exhibition in the library, statue cleaning, a guided walk and a free concert at the United Reformed Church.
Society chairman Seona Ford said: “Saturday was wonderful - it went really well and everybody seemed to have a great time."
