A day to celebrate the life of Witham’s most famous literary figure will be held on Saturday.
Acclaimed theologian, novelist and Dante scholar Dorothy L Sayers lived in Witham between 1929 and 1957, and is represented by a statue near the town’s library and the home she lived in in Newland Street.
She is famed for being one of the most successful crime novelists alongside Agatha Christie and her Lord Peter Wimsey novels are still popular to this day.
The Dorothy L Sayers society will host the ‘Hurrah for Dorothy’ day at the weekend, which will include an exhibition in the library, cleaning of the statue, a guided walk and a free concert at the United Reformed Church in Newland Street.
