A mum battling breast cancer will hold a pamper day to show how wigs, make-up and massage can help women cope with treatment.

Karen Daniels, 53, was diagnosed with breast cancer on March 31 after feeling an itchy, raised patch on her skin during a regular check of her breasts on March 1.

Luckily Mrs Daniels, who has a 19-year-old son, caught the cancer early and has already had two of six chemotherapy sessions.

Following the treatment, Karen, who lives in The Westerings in Tye Green, Cressing, faces surgery depending on how much the tumour shrinks.

Although Karen went through the trauma of losing her hair and feels "horrible" after her chemotherapy sessions, she said her discovery has spurred her on to raise awareness of the disease.

The trained beauty therapist was brave enough to share a picture of herself on Facebook after her husband, Michael, shaved her head when her blonde hair started falling out.

Karen now wears a wig to face the outside world.

She said: "It was pretty traumatic but I thought I was going to be brave.

"I took a picture and posted it on Facebook and said I was going to organise a charity event."

Through her work contacts, Karen has now gathered volunteers to give hair and make-up tutorials in aid of Look Good Feel Better charity, who support women and teenagers suffering from the physical side-effects of cancer treatment.

Everyone is welcome at the pamper day at the Oaklands Inn, Notley Green, on June 4 from 10am to 1pm.
