More than 800 homes were hit by a power cut after a lorry brought down overhead power cables.

UK Power Networks engineers restored power to 840 customers in Coggeshall and Earls Colne over about four hours.

A lorry damaged overhead lines as it was travelling through Prentice Place, Coggeshall, today.

A UK Power Networks spokesman said: “The incident was reported at 10.36am and as the repair work progressed, power was restored in stages between 10.37am and 2.09pm.”
