Green-fingered schoolchildren have marvelled at the fruits of their gardening work.

Pupils from Notley Green Primary School, White Court Primary School and Notley High School all helped plant 2,000 bluebell bulbs in White Court wood, in Great Notley, last year.

This week, they have returned to the spot to find beautiful swathes of blue now the plants are in flower.

The planting was organised by Great Notley Parish Council after they successfully bid for a £460 grant from the Tree Council.

Parish council chairman Graham Butland presented the children certificates for their handywork on Friday.

Clerk Suzanne Walker said: “They had a super time coming down to see all the bluebells and they found it lovely to see what they had achieved.”
