Schoolchildren, parents and care home residents marked the 70th anniversary of the Victory in Europe Day by holding special celebrations.

To commemorate the announcement that Germany had offered unconditional surrender to the Allies and bringing an end to the Second World War in Europe, primary school children in the district enjoyed street parties with their parents.

Pupils at Notley Green Primary School, in Blickling Road, Great Notley, and Powers Hall Academy, in Spa Road, Witham, dressed up in 1940s-style clothing, reminiscent of evacuees during the war.

Aspen Grange care home in Braintree marked the VE day anniversary with a 1940s themed party with a performance by entertainer Derek Firman, who sang all the war-time classics and was dressed in 1940s uniform.
