A new headteacher has been appointed at a Braintree secondary school and sixth form.

David Conway has been chosen to replace Simon Thompson as head of Notley High School and Braintree Sixth form.

After 11 years in the post, Mr Thompson, who oversaw the establishment of Braintree’s first dedicated sixth form centre and is Notley’s longest serving headteacher, will leave in the summer to become executive director of the Association of Secondary Headteachers in Essex.

He will represent the county's secondary schools on educational issues at local and national educational forums and in discussions with Essex County Council.

Mr Conway, who is currently headteacher at Bradfield School in Sheffield, will take up the post in September, as well as the role of executive headteacher for the North Essex Multi-Academy Trust, which also runs Halstead’s Ramsey Academy.
