Two Braintree housing association heroes are in the running to win national awards.

James Martin and Ian Marshall were shortlisted for the Housing Hero Awards, which recognise those who make the housing sector more caring.

Both were nominated for their work with Greenfields Community Housing, which provides around 8,500 homes for people across the district.

Positive engagement manager Mr Martin was picked for mentoring around 700 youngsters in the last two years.

Using free sports sessions as a hook, he encourages 13 to 19-year-olds to turn their back on alcohol, drugs, anti-social behaviour and petty crime.

He then helps to increase their skills, employability and confidence.

Greenfields resident Ian Marshall, 75, from Kelvedon, was nominated for the Tenant Lifetime Contribution Award for making sure other Greenfields residents have their say in the services they receive.

The results of the awards will be announced on June 22.
