BOY racers who gather at Freeport car park could soon be slapped with a £60 fine or a dispersal order to move them on.

Bosses at Freeport and Braintree Leisure are to discuss turning on existing automatic number plate recognition cameras (ANPR) overnight to prevent petrolheads congregating.

Police dispersal orders and paying to park after a certain time will also be discussed.

Freeport manager Josef O’Sullivan hopes to put a solution in place in the next three weeks after complaints.

Groups of motorists have gathered in the car park for several years, but residents claim noise levels have recently got worse.

Chris Hayes, of Mill Park Drive, said: "These guys are there pretty much every night. You hear engines revving and the cars driving at great speed until 1am and 2am."
