A Braintree Police Sergeant is taking on his second London Marathon to help fight crime.

Nick Williams, 32, vowed to never take on the gruelling 26 mile course again after completing it for the first time last year.

But the keen runner has taken on the challenge for a second time to raise funds for crime-fighting charity Crimestoppers.

He said: "I’ve only been running for a year and a half so this is another huge challenge for me.

"After last year I said I’d never do it again but this year I started to wonder whether I could improve on my time and raise even more money for a worthy cause.

"This year I’m running for Crimestoppers - as a Sergeant with Essex Police I regularly experience the excellent work that the charity does.

"The money that I will raise will allow them to continue vital community projects, which will help to reduce crime in the county.”

Sgt Williams has been concentrating on building up his distance by pounding the streets three times a week.

He said: "I can’t wait to feel the excitement of the day again.

"The crowd will definitely give me a lift when I hit those inevitable low points along the route.

"My motivation for getting to the finish is knowing that I’m raising money for charity and knowing that if I fail to complete the distance I’ll get lots of stick at work!"

Nick is arranging a raffle to boost his fundraising and he is approaching local businesses to donate prizes.
