Give the dog a phone!

Mazzy, a 20-month-old cockapoo, must have needed some emergency attention on Saturday night after she inadvertently dialled 999 on her owner's phone while she was lying on the sofa.

The Cocker Spaniel-poodle cross was cuddling up to Karen Walker when she made the phone call by sitting on the phone.

Mrs Walker, 52, of Coggeshall, was none the wiser until two police officers knocked on her door the following morning to check she was OK.

She said: "I thought 'oh my God' and I told them it was my dog.

"I was really impressed that they came to check everything was OK.

"It was nice that they cared."

An Essex Police spokesman said: "Police received a call shortly before 10.50pm on Saturday, March 21, which was then cut off abruptly.

"Staff tried to call back but there was no answer, so officers called round to the address the following day to check on the occupants and ensure no crimes had been committed."
