Supermarket workers have celebrated the opening of Braintree’s fourth Tesco by donating to a charity helping disabled people and their families.
Janet Brown, chairman of Braintree District Mencap Society, and vice chairman Barry Joyce were the guests of honour when the new Tesco Express store, on Coggeshall Road, opened on Friday.
They cut the ribbon to declare the store officially open.
Store manager Neil Levy and his team presented Braintree Mencap with a £500 cheque.
Mrs Brown said: “I would like to thank Tesco for this generous donation, we are absolutely thrilled.
“The money will go towards the running of our minibus as it will benefit all of our members with a learning disability – allowing them to attend activities that they perhaps would not be able to.
“The Play and Activity Respite Group use it for outings, whilst the adults use the minibus to attend swimming sessions, football training, hockey training and those living in the rural areas use it to come to the Gateway Club every Thursday evening.”
