Calls have been made to curb speeding on a road outside a village primary school following a three-vehicle crash.

Two women were taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford on Friday after three cars were involved in a collision in Braintree Road, Cressing.

The crash, which blocked the road outside Cressing Primary School, occurred at about 8.30am and caused tailbacks affecting nearby Galleys Corner roundabout for most of the morning.

Mum Tanya Sillett, 40, of Challis Rise, Rayne, witnessed the crash as she was parked in the layby with her daughter, who attends the primary school.

The trained nurse said: “My daughter was reading to me as usual and then I suddenly heard this massive bump.

“I thought ‘what the hell was that?’

“I was looking behind us and I saw lots of people panicking.

“I went to the worst car, which was all crumpled up, and there was a lady driving, who was 13 weeks pregnant."

Police have not yet determined the cause of the crash.
