A splash park, adventure playground and café could come to Witham in plans to regenerate the town.
It is hoped the attractions, which prove hugely popular in nearby Maldon, could attract visitors from far and wide.
Retail consultants GVA have also suggested expanding the recreation ground and opening up the entrances to the park, which is hidden between Maldon Road and Newland Street.
Mayor Janet Money said: “I have lived here for over 30 years and for the first 20 years I never knew it existed.
“Not everybody has got a park almost in the centre of the town - it needs to be used more, I think it needs to be made into more of a focal point.”
