Bagpipes and drums rang out across High Garrett as a pipe band led the way to the funeral of a teenager killed in a head-on crash.

Band members of Colchester and District Pipes and Drums proudly paid their last respects to their leading drummer James Simmons, 18, by marching in front of the funeral procession at Three Counties Crematorium on Tuesday.

Talented musician James, who was studying for a diploma in music technology at The College at Braintree, died in a crash in Braintree Road, Gosfield, on December 7, which also claimed the life of his friend Coz Powell, 21, of Gosfield.

James, of Hillside Gardens, Braintree, was the rear seat passenger in a Volkswagen Polo, which was in collision with a Ford Fiesta.

Hundreds of people attended his funeral with some friends standing in the foyer and many more listening to the service on speakers outside.
