Four people have been sent to hospital following a four car crash in Braintree this morning. 

The ambulance service sent a rapid response car, two Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) vehicles, an officer, an air ambulance and three land ambulances to the scene in Halstead Road at about 10.50am.

An ambulance service spokesman described three people as "walking wounded with minor injuries".

Two people were taken to Colchester General Hospital and one person was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford by land ambulance for further care.

Two fire engines from Braintree and Witham also attended the scene as another person was trapped in the car.

They were released by 12.05pm and was taken to Braintree Hospital.

The ambulance service described them as being in "the most serious condition" but the injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
