Hundreds of bottles were overflowing from a recycling centre after one missed collection.

Carrier bags filled with empty bottles littered the pavement in front of recycling bins at the Mill Lane recycling centre in Witham this week after council crews were unable to empty the bins.

It is believed the bottles came from a pub nearby.

A Braintree Council spokesman said: “Our crew visited the site on Saturday for the regular collection, but as the car park was full of cars and access was blocked, we were unable to empty the bins.

“As the vehicle we use is a top-loader this meant the crew were unable to manually unload them.

“A crew revisited on Monday and the site has now been cleared.”

Adam Biggs, who took the picture of the site, said even though the bottles had been removed, there was still a lot of mess.

He said: “It’s still a state. Bottles gone but rubbish and clothes bags still there.”
