A fresh campaign will be launched to lower a main road's speed limit for the second time after a granddad was killed riding his motorbike.

District councillor David Mann, who lives on the A131 at High Garrett, is calling for another round of improvements to his street after dad-of-five Bryan Myers died and schoolgirl Helen Harvey was left fighting for her life following a horror crash.

He hopes to bring up residents’ suggestions for a lower 30mph speed limit on the 40mph road with Essex County Council’s Highways department - the second time he has campaigned for lower speed restrictions.

In the past he had successfully lobbied for the road to be reduced from 50mph to 40mph.

He said: “I've had a number of conversations with local people since the accident.

“There is a consensus that speed and inappropriate overtaking can at times be a problem along the High Garrett main road, and that if we are stuck with a 40mph limit it should be enforced, if necessarily by speed cameras."
