Campaigners against a new Sainsbury's store in Braintree remain worried about the impact on traffic.

Julie Jesse of Nayling Road, Braintree, said her back garden is 50 metres from the boundary of what could be the Sainsbury's store.

"I know it sounds like 'not in our back yard' and it is a bit trite to say we don't want it her because of that but it is a very big intrusion to have such an enormous building literally on our doorstep.

"This is basically a residential area. I know the industrial estate is in disrepair at the moment, the whole place is very poorly maintained, and anything would be better.

"But surely if it's residential, then a residential development such as low cost housing would be a much better development for that site.

"Also, we are constantly worried about the infrastructure of the road system around here, it's just not good enough to squeeze 500-odd cars in and out every hour."

Braintree Council refused permission for the store, but Sainsbury's appealed to the Planning Inspectorate.

A planning inquiry is due to finish on Wednesday.
