A teenager has appeared in court charged with throwing corrosive liquid at a man in Witham, scarring him for life.

The 15-year-old boy, from Mitcham, south London, was arrested in Sutton, south London, on Monday.

It follows an attack on Wayne Ingold, who suffered serious burns to his hands, face and arms, on August 8.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was charged with throwing a corrosive fluid with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He denied the charge when he appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The dad-of-two said he was “absolutely buzzing” that somebody had been charged.

He said: “Last night was the first night’s sleep I have had in months, because it has kept going through my mind."
