A MOTORCYCLIST has been rushed to hospital after colliding with a HGV and a lorry on the A12.

The road was closed in both directions.

The crash took place shortly after 3.30pm.

The biker suffered severe and multiple injuries in the collision and is being treated at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford.

The vehicles collided on the southbound carriageway near Witham.

The northbound carriageway was closed to allow the air ambulance to land but reopened at 5.30pm.

The southbound carriageway reopened later in the evening.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: "Police were called at around 3.45pm today with reports of a collision involving a motorcycle, HGV and a lorry.

"The driver of the motorcycle has sustained serious injuries."

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics treated a man in his 30s for “multiple injuries” and took him to Broomfield Hospital, in Chelmsford.

The service sent one rapid response vehicle, a land ambulance and an air ambulance within three minutes of the emergency call, at 3.39pm.
