They might be not be among the upper crust of English football but the Iron are top of the league when it comes to best value tickets, pies, and tea.
According to the BBC’s annual price of football survey, Braintree Town sells the cheapest pies at any English football ground at just £1 a go, the cheapest cup of tea at just 80p and the third cheapest season tickets out of 176 English clubs.
The study reveals the cheapest season ticket at Braintree is £170 (for pensioners), with only Championship outfit Charlton Athletic and fellow Conference Premier side Eastleigh offering a better deal.
Club chairman Lee Harding said the BBC study had not included the fact season tickets are free for under-16s.
He said: “We have worked hard to get more youngsters coming along and if you are under 16 you can come in for £6 or get a season ticket for nothing. That’s zero, nil.
“I’m not sure we can do much better than that unless we pay people to come in.”
