A golf club owner claims his members are the most accurate in the country after at least 16 players scored a hole-in-one in just two years.

The incredible run at Gosfield Lake Golf Club began in July 2012, when octogenarian Bill Beckett, a member of the club for 20 years, scored an ace on the 170 yard second hole.

Club owner Ralph Rowe said: “If you multiply the odds of getting a hole-in-one by the number we’ve had we could end up being the most accurate golf club in England."

Annie Smith, 63, of High Garrett, is the only lady to score an ace during the run.

She said: “I was playing with another lady and I wasn’t playing particularly well. I hit the ball and I thinned it.

“I thought it must have ended up in the grass but my playing partner went to look in the hole and she just started jumping up and down.

“I didn’t keep the ball though because I hit it into the lake on the next hole.”
