Braintree Council is checking people are claiming council tax discount correctly
Braintree Council will be checking residents who receive a single person discount for council tax are entitled to it.
There are currently 19,900 people in the district claiming the 25 per cent discount.
Anyone who fails to notify the council of a change in their circumstances, which could affect their entitlement, could be fined £70.
The review begin next month. To contact the council about the discount, call 01376 552525 or email counciltax@braintree.gov.uk.
