This week we are launching the Pride in Braintree campaign to celebrate the best of the towns we live in.

Whether it be a thriving independent business or a dedicated volunteer, we will be sharing the most inspirational stories nominated by you.

Send your nominations for a person, business or group to emma.hobley@nqe.com and we will feature the most inspirational story each week.

To introduce the campaign, community leaders have had their say on what inspires them most about Braintree.

Leader of Braintree District Council Graham Butland said: “Braintree is a district of hidden gems.

“Tucked away are some of the world’s leading businesses and a very entrepreneurial bunch of people.

“There are volunteers in every parish that give up their time freely without any recompense to keep it nice for their fellow residents - it’s not a selfish community.

“I’ve lived in Great Notley for 17 years which is the longest I’ve lived anywhere and I can safely say I am proud of Braintree.”

MP for Braintree Brooks Newmark said: "Having represented Braintree as its MP for almost 10 years now, I know there are many wonderful individuals, voluntary groups and businesses within the constituency that make me proud.

“We are lucky to have lots of independent retailers, great voluntary services and many council schemes that boost our high street, our youth and our community.

“There is PARC, the Braintree Youth Project, Braintree Rethink, the Archer Community Centre, the local Food Bank run by Christ Church, the Essex Boys & Girls Club and Ignite to name but a few.

“I thoroughly enjoy the time I spend supporting my constituents and our community and it is their character that makes me most proud of Braintree."
