A football club are considering ways to remember their popular chairman, who died in the boardroom following a heart attack.

Tony Last, 65 collapsed at Witham Town’s Spa Road ground on July 3 but could not be resuscitated by paramedics.

Mr Last, of Wentworth Crescent, Braintree, joined the club 15 years ago and had previously coached the youth side at Braintree Town Football Club.

Kevin Carroll, secretary of Witham Town, said: “We are going to have a Tony Last memorial cup that is going to be played once a year, pre-season, against Braintree Town FC.

“It isn’t finalised yet but Braintree have agreed to do it and because Tony worked for both clubs, we have got a meeting at the end of the season to discuss details.”

Mr Carroll said the club hopes to name its new boardroom after him and is also considering naming the football academy after him.
