Shoppers are celebrating after Aldi has proved it is not giving up on coming to Witham, despite previous plans being refused.

The supermarket giant has submitted fresh plans for a 990sqm store, which would be built on the corner of Gershwin Boulevard and Hatfield Road, after detailed proposals were refused on design grounds in November.

An appeal was lodged to the Planning Inspectorate but that was also refused in May.

Aldi has already successfully gained overarching planning permission for the Maltings Lane estate as part of a masterplan for the development but has not yet been given the final go-ahead to build a store, which would create up to 20 jobs.
