THREE people were assaulted during a gang attack in Colchester.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses after an incident in Head Street in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The three men were walking past two groups of people involved in an argument at about 1am on their way to Crouch Street.
They were attacked and one, a 21-year-old man from Braintree, suffered a fractured eye socket.
An 18-year-old man from Colchester has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and being drunk and disorderly.
He has been bailed until October while investigations continue.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "This was a nasty unprovoked assault."
