Braintree is in the running to win up to £50,000 in prize money based on the quality of the town’s High Street.
Braintree Town Team has applied to compete for the Great British High Street award, which recognises the work the group has done to promote and invest in the town’s shopping centre.
If successful, Braintree, which has been entered into the market town category, will share the £50,000 amongst winners from the other categories, including city centre, town centre, coastal community, local shopping centre and village.
The town team has not yet discussed what the prize money would be spent on.
See this week's Braintree and Witham Times for the full story.
