An East London man who indecently exposed himself on trains in London, Hertfordshire and Essex has been given a nine-month suspended prison sentence.

Liam Parker, 29, of William Morley Close, East Ham, was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Friday, 15 August.

He was also ordered to attended a sex offenders’ treatment programme for 100 hours, and given a 24-month supervision order.

Parker will also have to pay a victim surcharge of £100 and £800 in costs.

Parker, who admitted four charges of indecent exposure at an earlier hearing, was caught after a British Transport Police (BTP) investigation.

The court heard officers were alerted to Parker’s behaviour by a woman on a train travelling between Fenchurch Street and Grays in Essex on Tuesday, June 10.

The woman tweeted photographs of Parker exposing and touching himself inappropriately on the service.

Detectives released CCTV images of Parker leaving the train at Barking station and circulated images to the media.

Following media coverage, several witnesses came forward to report similar behaviour by Parker.

The court heard a man matching Parker’s description had exposed himself on a train travelling between Cheshunt in Hertfordshire and Theobalds Grove in London on Friday, May 30.

Further analysis of CCTV following a report of indecent exposure at Barking station on Friday, June 13 also clearly showed Parker was responsible.

The court heard Parker was caught again on CCTV on Tuesday, 24 June after a woman on a train travelling between Bruce Grove station and Liverpool Street reported a man had indecently exposed himself.

Parker was arrested the next day after information from the public led detectives to his address.

Following Parker’s sentencing, Detective Constable Jon Howlett said: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank the media and the public for their help in this case."
