A DIY giant hopes to move to a new huge superstore on the outskirts of Braintree – complete with a garden centre, builder’s yard and 255 parking spaces.

If B&Q’s plans to move to a new warehouse on land to the south of Millennium Way near Galley’s Corner roundabout are given the go-ahead, the existing store at Braintree Retail Park will close.

The new store will sell twice the amount of goods.

Brenda Baker, chairman at Braintree Chamber of Trade and Commerce, said: “Our B&Q wouldn’t suffer from being bigger.”

See this week's Braintree and Witham Times for the full story.

No. It's on Millennium Way just off the roundabout next to Mcdonalds , across the road from the car wash

Great stuff, I hope it goes ahead. B & Q is a very useful store to have around, and the one in Freeport always felt a little lacking compared to the excellent site in Chelmsford.
The land is currently hidden by bushes, and is just a wasteland really, so there would not be any huge wildlife issues.

B&Q. Should go into partnership with Tesco for this bid. That would simplify the planning process somewhat! ;-)
